On the 25th of February, our six EU Junior Ambassadors from classes 6e and 7e went to the Schulzentrum Lessinggasse to participate in an EYP mini-session alongside students from Herta Firnberg School. In total, about 50 students participated.
Initially, we could choose a topic, and then we were separated into different groups. Viraj and I from class 6e chose the topic ECON, while the other girls from 7e selected the topic FEMM. Our topic, ECON, focused on the struggles of small and medium-sized businesses in the EU. There were seven people in our group in total.
We began by getting to know each other through some icebreaker games. After that, we discussed the “Tesla Dilemma.” Following a break, we sat down to explore our topic and its associated problems. We then brainstormed possible solutions, and our group leader, Lara, assigned our roles.
Each group was required to present an opening speech. Later, the chairperson read out the problems and the solutions proposed by each group. After allowing time for the students to review the problems and solutions, the debate rounds commenced. We were able to ask questions regarding the solutions, while the designated speaker addressed them.
Soon enough, it was our turn to take the stage. We delivered our opening speech, after which the other students reviewed our proposed solutions for supporting small businesses in the EU. After addressing all the questions, Viraj and another girl delivered the emotional closing speech.
Finally, the other students voted on our solutions. We received mostly positive votes, which allowed our campaign to pass!
After listening to all the delegates and their campaigns, we were finally permitted to go home. (Lisa, 6e)
