On the 5th of March 2026, our class 6E went on a trip to the Europa Experience in the first district. When we arrived, the first thing we did was watch a short film about the EU in their immersive 360° cinema. It was really interesting because the screen surrounded us, making the experience feel realistic and exciting. After the film, we took a picture with a caption and sent it to all the Europa Experience Houses across Europe. It was cool to think that people in other European countries could see our photo!
Shortly after that, the debate started. We were randomly grouped with students from a different school, making a total of 36 students. For this part of the Europa Experience, we role-played as members of the European Parliament. We negotiated fictional EU regulations with the other groups. There were four different groups, each with nine members, and each group represented a different political party. Even if we disagreed with some opinions, we had to defend the position of our assigned party. The two main topics we discussed were online dangers and the economy.
During the role-play, we were given phones. Whenever we had a task to complete, it appeared on the phone. We also used the phones to vote on different decisions. The voting results showed up immediately on the screen, which made it feel just like a real parliament session. Each group had a screen at their table, where a person appeared to give us information and instructions. There was also a screen showing citizens who shared their concerns. We wrote down important points to help us during the discussions.
Through this workshop, we experienced firsthand how democracy works in the European Union. I especially liked the part where we tried to find solutions together. Overall, the excursion was very interesting and educational. It helped us understand how decisions are made in the EU and how important discussion and cooperation are in a democracy. The experience really prepared us for our mobility to Brussels! (Layal, 6e)
