(Arman, 7E)

A workshop with „Global 2000“

On 25.02.2021,  the 7e class had a workshop with GLOBAL 2020; it was held by Miriam Bahn. During this workshop, we learned about climate change and ways to fight against it. We also had an opportunity to participate by voting on polls and discussing the main problems and solutions in different groups. We were divided into five groups and had discussions on different topics such as transport, clothing, food, technology, and energy. We came to the conclusion that if we make our roads greener (more roads for bikes, for example), buy more secondhand clothing, eat less meat, use more sustainable sources, and a lot more, we could help reduce climate change consequences.

Of course, this is not all that we need to do, and we are not the only ones who need to do something. Big industries need to run on more sustainable sources (like wind energy, solar energy, hydro energy, etc.), recycling is also important, and cutting the CO2 emissions would be helpful. An interesting fact which we learned is that if the whole population lived with the same lifestyle as people in  the USA, we would need seven planets for surviving; and if we lived like people in Africa, we would only need half  a planet. Based on that, we can see that more industrialized countries are causing more damage to the environment. It is important  to remember that it is not too late, and we can still change our lifestyle to be more environment-friendly and green! (Maja, 7E)

Climate Chance – the devastation of our planet

As human beings it is extremely important and necessary that we recognize the seriousness of the global warming which is changing our climate. I feel lucky to have had the opportunity in our school to be part of the Global 2000 workshop that  was focused on  this very significant matter.

What did we do in the workshop? At the beginning of our meeting, the hostess Miriam asked us some basic questions about global warming to check our level of knowledge. To make it easy and voluntary, she provided us with a link to participate anonymously and then she explained the key words that we wrote there so that each of us could understand all words. Moreover, we watched a video which explained the changes of the crisis for a better overview. Later, Miriam split us into four groups: consumption (food), electricity & heat, clothes and mobility (cars and air travel). These are the main problem areas of climate change. In the groups, we discussed our topic and answered some questions, which one of us had to present to the rest of the class later. A fact that really shocked me is that if everybody in the world would live like us, we would need three planets!

In conclusion, it was a great experience to improve our knowledge and a brilliant idea to educate young people in an interesting way. In my opinion, this kind of workshops should be done in other schools, too, in order to spread awareness of such a major issue. (Jasmeen, 7E)
