On Saturday, March 8, 2025, we had the special opportunity to welcome students from La Réunion to our school. Their visit coincided with International Women’s Day, so we dedicated the day to discussing women’s rights in Austria and La Réunion. In addition to this important topic, our guests also introduced us to their country and culture through presentations.
Discussion on Women’s Rights
Before giving our guests a tour of the school, we first sat down for a discussion on women’s rights. We covered various topics such as education, sports, and pensions, comparing the progress made in both regions and the challenges that still exist. It was particularly interesting to talk about the role of women in schools and professional life. The students from La Réunion shared their experiences, and we discovered both similarities and differences between our countries.
Presentations About La Réunion
After the discussion, our guests gave us some insightful presentations about their country. They talked about the geography, culture, traditions, and daily life in La Réunion. We learned about the island’s diverse population, its unique mix of influences from Africa, Europe, and Asia, and its natural beauty, including volcanoes and tropical beaches. It was fascinating to hear firsthand experiences and compare their lifestyle with ours.
School Tour
Following the presentations, we took our guests on a tour of the school, showing them our classrooms, subject-specific rooms, and recreational areas. We explained how our school system works and how it differs from theirs. The students from La Réunion asked many questions and showed great interest in our daily school life.
Shared Meal
To conclude the day, we all went out to eat Döner together. In a relaxed setting, we continued our conversations and got to know each other better. We exchanged contact information and enjoyed the friendships that had formed throughout the day.
The visit was a valuable experience for everyone involved. Not only did we learn a lot about women’s rights in different countries, but we also gained a deeper understanding of La Réunion’s culture. It was a great opportunity to broaden our perspectives and strengthen international connections.
